A. D. Whitfield, Jr. (1943–2022) was a running back who played college football at North Texas State University, where he led his conference in rushing as a senior with 592 yards and finished his career with 936 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent following the 1965 NFL draft, he spent most of his rookie season on the taxi squad before being waived. The Washington Redskins claimed him off waivers in July 1966. His most notable game came against the New York Giants, when the two teams combined for 113 points, setting an NFL record.
