Al Shaw
Dossier
Alfred Louis "Shoddy" Shaw (May 22, 1873 – March 25, 1958). A native of Burslem, England, he died in Uhrichsville, Ohio. Standing 5-foot-8 and listed at 170 pounds, batted right-handed and threw right. He worked the major leagues from 1901 through 1909, spending the bulk of his career with the Chicago White Sox of the American League. His professional career stretched from 1895 to 1914, bracketing his big-league time with seasons in the minors at both ends. Among collectors of the era, his card appearance is anchored by the T206 White Border issue. He is interred at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville, Ohio. He was born in England — an unusual origin among players of his generation.
