Alban Glossop was an infielder who appeared in 309 Major League Baseball games over parts of five seasons. Born July 12, 1914, he reached the majors with the New York Giants in 1939 and went on to play for the Boston Bees, Philadelphia Phillies, Brooklyn Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs across the 1939-1940, 1942-1943, and 1946 seasons. He was primarily a second baseman, logging 195 games at the position, with additional time at third base and shortstop. He was the Phillies' starting second baseman in 1942. His broader professional career extended from 1932 through 1950, interrupted by two seasons of service in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during 1944 and 1945. Over his major league career he batted .209 with 199 hits, including 29 doubles and 15 home runs, and 86 RBIs. He died July 2, 1991, in Walnut Creek, California, at age 76.
