Dossier

Clifton Alexander Hawkins (July 2, 1937 – September 12, 2017) grew up in Welch, West Virginia and attended South Charleston High School, where he became the first student to letter in four sports. He played college football at the University of South Carolina from 1956 to 1958, lining up at multiple positions on offense, defense, and special teams. Hawkins went on to play running back in the NFL for the Baltimore Colts and Atlanta Falcons. He made his mark primarily as a special teams player and served as special teams co-captain with the Colts — the first player in NFL history to hold that distinction.
