Andrew Arthur Carey, born Andrew Hexem on October 18, 1931, in Oakland, California, was a right-handed third baseman who spent the bulk of his major league career with the New York Yankees. He attended Saint Mary's College of California before signing with the Yankees for a $60,000 bonus, making his big-league debut in 1952. By 1954 he had secured the starting third base job in New York. Carey remained with the Yankees through 1960, then finished his career with brief stints for the Kansas City Athletics, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers before retiring after the 1962 season. He died December 15, 2011.
