Dossier

Augie Galan (May 23, 1912 – December 28, 1993) was a professional baseball outfielder who played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball between 1934 and 1949. Born in Berkeley, California, to French immigrant parents, he graduated from Berkeley High School before beginning his professional career in the Texas League and with the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League. Galan spent time with five clubs over his career: the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Athletics. A switch hitter early in his career, he converted to hitting exclusively left-handed partway through the 1943 season and remained so through retirement.
