Aurele Joliat

Dossier

Aurèle Émile Joliat (August 29, 1901 – June 2, 1986) was a Canadian left winger who spent 16 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens. Born and raised in Ottawa, he began playing organized hockey in 1916 and came to Montreal after his Saskatoon Crescents contract was traded in exchange for Newsy Lalonde. Despite standing 5′7″ and weighing 136 pounds — earning him the nicknames "Mighty Atom" and "Little Giant" — Joliat proved a capable two-way forward known for his counterattacking ability. He helped the Canadiens win Stanley Cup championships in 1924, 1930, and 1931.
