Barry Ashbee
Dossier
William Barry Ashbee (July 28, 1939 – May 12, 1977) was a Canadian defenceman who played five NHL seasons for the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers between 1965 and 1974. He broke into professional hockey with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League and made his NHL debut on November 25, 1965, against the New York Rangers. His career was interrupted by a crushed disk that cost him the entire 1966–67 season, and he was left unprotected in the 1967 expansion draft before eventually establishing himself as an NHL regular with Philadelphia. An eye injury during a game partially blinded him and ended his playing career. Ashbee died of leukemia on May 12, 1977.
