Bill Hands

Dossier

William Alfred Hands, Jr. (May 6, 1940 – March 9, 2017) was a right-handed pitcher from Rutherford, New Jersey who played in the major leagues from 1965 to 1975. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and Ohio Wesleyan University before signing with the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent in 1959. After making his debut with San Francisco in 1965, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs alongside catcher Randy Hundley — a deal later regarded as one of the best in Cubs history. Hands, nicknamed "Froggy," posted his best season in 1969, going 20-14 for Chicago.
