William James Riley (born September 20, 1950) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player notable as the third Black player in the National Hockey League and the first of African Nova Scotian descent. A forward, Riley played 139 NHL games split between the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets from 1974 to 1980. He was discovered while playing senior hockey for the Kitimat Eagles in British Columbia, where he had recorded 206 points over 80 games across two seasons. The remainder of his professional career, which extended through 1989, was spent in the minor leagues.
