Bill Schonely (June 1, 1929 – January 21, 2023), nicknamed "The Schonz," was an American sports broadcaster born in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Marine Corps and began his broadcasting career on Armed Forces Radio while stationed on Guam. After working in radio in Louisiana and Seattle, he settled in Portland, Oregon, where he became the play-by-play voice of the Portland Trail Blazers from the franchise's inaugural 1970 season through 1998. Over his career he also broadcast Major League Baseball, college sports, NHL games, and junior ice hockey.
