William Clyde Hitchcock (July 31, 1916 – April 9, 2006) was an American League infielder who appeared in 703 games over nine seasons with five clubs: the Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Browns, and Philadelphia Athletics. Born in Inverness, Alabama and a graduate of Auburn University, Hitchcock batted .243 with 547 hits across all four infield positions. He broke in with the 1942 Tigers, served three years in the Army Air Force in the Pacific during World War II, and returned to the majors from 1946 to 1953. He later managed the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves and served as president of the Southern League from 1971 to 1980.
