William Ray Newsome (March 2, 1948 – November 12, 2024) was a defensive end in the NFL who played college football at Grambling State. He appeared for four franchises during his professional career: the Baltimore Colts, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears. On January 29, 1973, the Colts sent Newsome and a 1973 fourth-round pick to New Orleans in exchange for the Saints' first-round selection that year, the second overall pick, which Baltimore used to select quarterback Bert Jones.
