Bob Kennedy

Dossier

Robert Daniel Kennedy (1920–2005) was a right-handed third baseman and right fielder who spent parts of eighteen seasons in the major leagues, suiting up for the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and Brooklyn Dodgers between 1939 and 1957. A line-drive hitter with a strong, accurate arm, Kennedy was born in Chicago and was working as a sixteen-year-old popcorn vendor at Comiskey Park the night before the White Sox signed him in 1937. In 1940 he became the first teenaged major leaguer since 1900 to appear in 150 games in a season. He later managed the Cubs (1963–65) and Oakland Athletics (1968).
