Dossier

Robert Perry Lillis (born June 2, 1930, in Altadena, California) was a right-handed infielder who played his high school ball at Pasadena High School before attending Pasadena City College and the University of Southern California. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1951 and spent eight years in their farm system behind shortstop Pee Wee Reese, reaching the majors in 1958. Traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in mid-1961, Lillis became an original member of the 1962 Houston Colt .45s expansion club and remained with the franchise — renamed the Astros in 1965 — for more than two decades as a player, coach, and eventually manager.
