Robert Boden Scheffing (1913–1985), nicknamed "Grumpy," was a right-handed catcher from Overland, Missouri who spent most of his playing career with the Chicago Cubs (1941–42, 1946–50) after being selected from the Cardinals' farm system in the 1940 Rule 5 draft. He also appeared with the Cincinnati Reds and Cardinals, finishing with a .263 average, 357 hits, and 517 games over eight MLB seasons. Scheffing served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II (1943–45) and later returned to Chicago as a Cubs coach (1954–55) and manager (1957–59).
