Bobby Orr

Robert Gordon Orr, born March 20, 1948, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who reshaped the role of the defenceman through his skating speed, scoring, and play-making. He began organized hockey at age eight, initially as a forward before moving to defence, where he was encouraged to use his skating to control play. His performances in Ontario provincial competition drew the attention of NHL scouts.

Orr played twelve seasons in the National Hockey League, the first ten with the Boston Bruins and the final two with the Chicago Black Hawks. He remains the only defenceman to win the league scoring title, capturing two Art Ross Trophies, and he holds the records for most points and most assists in a single season by a defenceman. Orr won eight consecutive Norris Trophies as the league's best defenceman and three consecutive Hart Trophies as its most valuable player.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979 at age 31, the youngest player inducted to that point. In 2017, the National Hockey League named Orr one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in its history.
