Brian Winfield Sipe (born August 8, 1949) grew up in El Cajon, California, where he competed in the 1961 Little League World Series before attending Grossmont High School. He played college football under head coach Don Coryell at San Diego State University, studying architecture alongside his athletic career. Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the thirteenth round of the 1972 NFL Draft, Sipe spent his first two seasons on the reserve squad before earning playing time in 1974. He served as the Browns' quarterback from 1974 to 1983, winning the NFL Most Valuable Player Award in 1980. He later played two seasons in the USFL.
