Bruce Edwards

Dossier
Bruce Edwards (1923-1975) was a catcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1946 to 1952 and from 1954 to 1956, most prominently with the Brooklyn Dodgers. His strongest season came in 1947, when he batted .295 with 9 home runs and 80 runs batted in as the Dodgers won the National League pennant. That year he finished fourth in voting for the National League Most Valuable Player Award and was named a reserve on the National League squad for the All-Star Game. An arm injury suffered in spring training in 1948, combined with the emergence of Roy Campanella, reduced Edwards to a backup role for much of the remainder of his career. Over ten major league seasons he appeared in 591 games, collecting 429 hits in 1,675 at bats for a .256 career batting average with 39 home runs and 241 runs batted in.
