Dossier

Burt Carlton Hooton, nicknamed "Happy," was a right-handed starting pitcher who spent the bulk of his 15-year Major League Baseball career with the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, finishing with 151 wins. A three-time All-American at the University of Texas from 1969 to 1971, he made an immediate impression in the majors by throwing a no-hitter in just his fourth career start for Chicago. His most prominent postseason came in 1981 with Los Angeles, when he was named NLCS Most Valuable Player and contributed four wins in five appearances as the Dodgers won the World Series. He made his only All-Star team that same season.
