Calder Trophy

Dossier

The Calder Memorial Trophy is the NHL's annual rookie award, presented to the player judged most proficient in his first year of competition in the league. It has been awarded since the 1936–37 season and is named after Frank Calder, the first president of the NHL. Voting is conducted by members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of each regular season. Eligibility requires that a player have not appeared in more than 25 regular-season games in any single prior season, nor six or more games in each of two prior seasons in any major professional league.
