Cecil Travis (August 8, 1913 – December 16, 2006) played his entire Major League Baseball career as a shortstop and third baseman for the Washington Senators from 1933 to 1947. Born in Riverdale, Georgia, the left-handed batter debuted at age 19, collecting five hits in his first game. He led the American League in hits in 1941 and compiled a career batting average of .314, a record for American League shortstops and third-highest among all shortstops behind Honus Wagner and Arky Vaughan. Travis lost four seasons to military service during World War II.
