Charles LaFayette Shepard Jr. (1933–2009) was a running back who played college football at North Texas State University before entering professional football. He appeared in 12 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1956, rushing for 91 yards. He then joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, where he spent six seasons from 1957 to 1962. During that stretch he appeared in five Grey Cup championship games, winning four. His best season came in 1959, when he rushed for 1,076 yards, earned all-star honors, and was named Grey Cup Most Valuable Player. He finished with 3,768 rushing yards as a Blue Bomber and was also an accomplished punter, averaging at least 43.1 yards per punt every season.
