Alfonso "Chico" Carrasquel (January 23, 1926 – May 26, 2005) was a Venezuelan shortstop who played in Major League Baseball from 1950 to 1959. Born in Caracas, he spent the bulk of his career with the Chicago White Sox and also played for the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Athletics, and Baltimore Orioles. A four-time All-Star, he became the first Latin American player to start an All-Star Game in 1951. Known for exceptional defensive play, he was the first in a line of Venezuelan shortstops that included Luis Aparicio and Omar Vizquel. He was inducted into the Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.
