John Owen, known as "Chief", was born August 21, 1883 in Austin, Texas, and died February 22, 1954 in Bertram, Texas. He made his major-league debut in 1908 and was associated chiefly with the Pittsburgh Pirates, with his final big-league appearance coming in 1916.
