Christopher John Cannizzaro (May 3, 1938 – December 29, 2016) was a catcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1960 to 1974. Born in Oakland, California, he attended San Leandro High School before signing with the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent in 1956. He made his MLB debut with St. Louis on April 17, 1960, and was selected by the New York Mets in the 1961 expansion draft. He appeared in 59 games for the 1962 Mets, a team that lost 120 games — the most by any MLB club since the nineteenth century. He later had his most productive seasons with the San Diego Padres.
