Charles Albert Conerly Jr. (1921–1996) was a quarterback who played for the New York Giants in the NFL from 1948 through 1961. He attended the University of Mississippi, where he began playing in 1942 before leaving to serve as a Marine in the South Pacific, including at the Battle of Guam. Returning to Ole Miss in 1946, he led the Rebels to their first Southeastern Conference championship in 1947, that year leading the nation in pass completions with 133, rushing for nine touchdowns, and throwing for 18 more. He earned consensus All-American honors in 1947 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1966.
