Claude "Hoot" Andrew Gibson (May 26, 1938 – January 17, 2026) was an American football defensive back and kick returner who attended Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville, North Carolina before playing for the NC State Wolfpack. At NC State he led the team in punt returns in 1958 and 1960, kickoff returns in 1959, and interceptions in 1960. He closed his college career by appearing in four postseason all-star games — the Senior Bowl, Copper Bowl, Coaches All-America Bowl, and Chicago All-Star Game — playing his entire senior season with a broken hand and wrist. He went on to play professionally in the AFL for the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders.
