Clay Dalrymple
Dossier
Clayton Errol Dalrymple (born December 3, 1936) was a catcher in Major League Baseball who spent the bulk of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies (1960–1968) before finishing with the Baltimore Orioles (1969–1971). A product of Chico Senior High School, he broke into professional baseball with the Sacramento Solons of the Pacific Coast League in 1956 and was drafted by the Phillies from the Milwaukee Braves organization in the November 1959 Rule 5 draft. He took over as Philadelphia's starting catcher in 1961, holding the job through the decade on the strength of his defense and throwing arm — he retired with a 48.8 percent caught-stealing rate, ranking 30th on the all-time list.
