Clinton Dawson Courtney (March 16, 1927 – June 16, 1975), nicknamed "Scrap Iron," was a left-handed-hitting, right-handed-throwing catcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1951 to 1961. Born in Louisiana and raised there and in Arkansas, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II before signing with the New York Yankees. After one appearance with New York in 1951, he was traded to the St. Louis Browns at the urging of manager Rogers Hornsby. Courtney won The Sporting News American League Rookie of the Year in 1952, batting .286. He also played for the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, and Kansas City Athletics.
