Dossier

John Curley Johnson (1935–2016) was a punter who played in the American Football League after going undrafted out of the University of Houston following the Pittsburgh Steelers' seventh-round selection in 1957. He joined the AFL's Dallas Texans in 1960 before signing with the New York Titans — later renamed the Jets — in 1961. Johnson also saw occasional duty at running back and tight end, finishing his career with 64 rushes for 209 yards, 32 receptions for 370 yards, and four touchdowns. He was one of only four original Titans players still on the roster when New York won Super Bowl III in 1969.
