Curt Knight

Dossier
Luther Curtis Knight Jr. (1943–2022) was a placekicker for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League from 1969 to 1973. A Mississippi native, Knight played college football and soccer at the United States Coast Guard Academy, where he earned All-New England honors in soccer; he remains the only Coast Guard Bears player to reach the NFL. After two years of Army service, during which he was recognized as the top kicker at the division level in both 1966 and 1967, he turned professional. Though an early practitioner of the soccer-style kick, Knight switched to straight-on kicking once in the NFL.
