Dossier

Ralph Foster "Cy" Perkins (February 27, 1896 – October 2, 1963) was a right-handed catcher from Gloucester, Massachusetts who spent most of his 17-season Major League career with the Philadelphia Athletics (1915, 1917–1930), also appearing briefly with the New York Yankees (1931) and Detroit Tigers (1934). He served as Philadelphia's starting catcher until Mickey Cochrane arrived in 1925, after which Perkins backed up Cochrane and was credited with teaching him to catch without injuring his hands. He appeared in 1,171 games, batting .259 with 933 hits and 409 RBI, and was part of the Athletics' World Series championship teams in 1929 and 1930.
