Cy Williams
Dossier
Frederick "Cy" Williams (December 21, 1887 – April 23, 1974) was a right-handed outfielder from Wadena, Indiana who spent 19 seasons in the National League with the Chicago Cubs (1912–17) and Philadelphia Phillies (1918–30). He attended Notre Dame, where he studied architecture and played football alongside Knute Rockne, before the Cubs signed him out of college. A consistent power hitter through the transition out of the dead-ball era, Williams led the National League in home runs four times and was the first NL player to reach 200 career home runs, holding the league's career record at 251 until Rogers Hornsby surpassed it in 1929.
