Charles Dallan Maxvill, born February 18, 1939, in Granite City, Illinois, was a right-handed shortstop who spent fourteen seasons in Major League Baseball. A Washington University in St. Louis graduate with a degree in electrical engineering, he signed with the hometown St. Louis Cardinals in 1960 and appeared in 1,423 games for the Cardinals (1962–1972), Oakland Athletics, and Pittsburgh Pirates. A light hitter at .217 with six career home runs, Maxvill distinguished himself defensively, posting a .973 fielding percentage at shortstop and committing no errors in 101 postseason chances. As a player, coach, and executive, he was associated with four World Series championships.
