Danny Murtaugh was an American baseball player and manager whose 29-year association with the Pittsburgh Pirates defined his career. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania on October 8, 1917, Murtaugh was a right-handed second baseman who played parts of nine major league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (1941–43, 1946), Boston Braves (1947), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1948–51), appearing in 767 career games. He later managed the Pirates to World Series championships in 1960 and 1971. He died on December 2, 1976.
