Darrell Ray Porter (January 17, 1952 – August 5, 2002) was a catcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1971 to 1987 for the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers. Born in Joplin, Missouri, he was drafted fourth overall by Milwaukee in the 1970 draft out of Southeast High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and made his major league debut at age 19. A four-time All-Star recognized for defensive ability and power hitting, Porter was named Most Valuable Player of the 1982 World Series with St. Louis. He died in 2002 at age 50 from accidental drug toxicity.
