David Cole Elmendorf (born June 20, 1949) played safety for the Los Angeles Rams across nine NFL seasons after being selected in the third round of the 1971 draft. A Texas A&M product, he earned All-America honors in football in 1970 and was a two-time All-American center fielder in baseball, passing on a New York Yankees draft selection to pursue professional football. Elmendorf started as a rookie in 1971 and made the All-Rookie team. He was named the Rams' Outstanding Defensive Back in 1973 and was part of the franchise's Super Bowl XIV team. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
