Denny McLain

Dossier

Dennis Dale McLain (born March 29, 1944, Markham, Illinois) was a right-handed pitcher who spent ten seasons in Major League Baseball, most of them with the Detroit Tigers. In 1968 he posted a 31–6 record, becoming the last pitcher in MLB history to win 30 or more games in a single season. That performance earned him both the American League MVP award and the first of two Cy Young awards. McLain was known during his career for an outspoken personality that at times created friction with teammates and fans. After baseball he faced federal convictions related to organized crime and embezzlement and served time in prison.
