Richard John Hoak (born December 8, 1939, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania) played running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL from 1961 to 1970, after playing college football at Penn State and being selected by Pittsburgh in the seventh round of the 1961 NFL Draft. Before his playing career, he starred at Jeannette High School as a quarterback and defensive back, leading the team to a WPIAL 3A title in 1956. Following his playing days, Hoak joined the Steelers coaching staff in 1972 and went on to become the longest-tenured coach in franchise history, serving through 2007.
