Dick Howser

Dick Howser was a Major League Baseball player and manager whose career spanned both the field and the dugout. He died of brain cancer on June 17, 1987, at age 51. That same year, friends established the Dick Howser Trophy in his honor, awarded annually to the national college baseball player of the year. Regarded as the Heisman Trophy of college baseball, the award has recognized players who went on to become first overall MLB draft picks, Rookies of the Year, and Hall of Fame inductees.
