Richard Raymond Radatz (April 2, 1937 – March 16, 2005) was a right-handed relief pitcher who spent the dominant stretch of his career with the Boston Red Sox in the early 1960s. Standing 6 ft 6 in and 230 lb, he earned the nickname "The Monster" after striking out Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Elston Howard in succession during a 1963 game against the New York Yankees. Radatz set the MLB record for strikeouts in a single season by a reliever with 181 in 1964, breaking his own mark of 162 from 1963. Over his career, he struck out Mantle 44 times in 63 at-bats.
