Don Ashby

Donald Allan Ashby (March 8, 1955 – May 30, 1981) was a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who played six seasons in the NHL from 1975–76 through 1980–81. Born in Kamloops, British Columbia, he developed through junior hockey with the Calgary Centennials before the Toronto Maple Leafs selected him in the first round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. He was later traded to the Colorado Rockies in 1978 and then to the Edmonton Oilers in 1980. In 188 career NHL games, Ashby recorded 40 goals, 56 assists, and 96 points. He died on May 30, 1981, at age 26, following an automobile accident in the Okanagan Valley.
