Don Oakes

Donald Sherman Oakes (July 22, 1938 - March 29, 2025) was an American football offensive tackle who played in the National Football League and the American Football League. He played college football for VPI (Virginia Tech) and was later inducted into the school's sports hall of fame. As a professional he spent two seasons with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and six seasons with the AFL's Boston Patriots. He was named the Patriots' top offensive lineman in 1966 and a first-team Eastern All-Star in 1967. After retiring he coached high school football in his hometown of Roanoke, Virginia.
