Doug Bird was a right-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1973 to 1983, spending the bulk of his career with the Kansas City Royals after being drafted by the club in the third round of the 1969 secondary phase. He worked across a variety of roles throughout his career, moving between the bullpen and starting rotation. Bird appeared in six postseason games between 1976 and 1978, all against the New York Yankees, compiling a 2.35 ERA in 7.2 innings. He died on September 24, 2024, in Asheville, North Carolina, at age 74.
