Douglas Lee Rader (born July 30, 1944, in Chicago) was a third baseman who played in Major League Baseball from 1967 to 1977 with the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays. Known primarily for his defensive ability, Rader won five consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1970 to 1974. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University before signing with the Astros as an undrafted free agent in 1965. Nicknamed "the Red Rooster" for the thick red hair that protruded from under his cap, he later managed the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, and California Angels between 1983 and 1991.
