Dossier

Douglas A. Swift (born October 24, 1948) played linebacker for the Miami Dolphins from 1970 through the 1975 season. A graduate of Amherst College, Swift stepped into the starting strongside linebacker role as a rookie and held it for six seasons. He was part of the Dolphins teams that won back-to-back Super Bowls following the 1972 and 1973 seasons, including Miami's perfect 17–0 campaign. In Super Bowl VII, his blitz forced Washington quarterback Billy Kilmer into a hurried throw that Nick Buoniconti intercepted, setting up Miami's second touchdown in a 14–7 win. Rather than report to the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1976, Swift retired to attend medical school and became an anesthesiologist in Philadelphia.
