Earl Lunsford (October 19, 1933 – September 3, 2008) was a fullback who played college football at Oklahoma A&M before joining the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in 1956, bypassing the Philadelphia Eagles who had drafted him 305th overall that year. After two seasons away for military service, he returned to Calgary and rushed for over 1,000 yards five times. In 1961 he led the entire CFL with 1,794 rushing yards, becoming the first running back in professional sports to rush for a mile in a single season. He earned All-Canadian honors that year and is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
