Edward James, known as "Batty", was born April 15, 1877 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and died January 6, 1957 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He made his major-league debut in 1897 and was associated chiefly with the Pittsburgh Pirates, with his final big-league appearance coming in 1910, a span of 14 seasons. He stood 5-foot-11 and was listed at 170 pounds, and batted and threw right-handed. He appears on the T206 White Border and E254 Colgan's Chips issues, two of the defining sets of the deadball era. He is buried at St. Mary Cemetery in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
