Ed Marinaro (born March 31, 1950) was a running back at Cornell University and later in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings. At Cornell, he earned three-time All-America honors, set more than 16 NCAA records, and became the first running back in NCAA history to surpass 4,000 career rushing yards. He led the nation in rushing in 1971, won the Maxwell Award that year, and finished as Heisman Trophy runner-up to Pat Sullivan — the highest Heisman finish by an Ivy League player since the mid-1950s. After his playing career he became an actor, best known for Hill Street Blues (1981–1986).
